Women Who Suffer From Migraines More Inclined To Be Depressed

Patient with headache, in particular migraine, are in a greater number predisposed to suffer from depression, feel tired, and have a host of other severe physical symptoms, according to a study published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The medical research involved 1090 women who buy cymbalta at headache clinics in five US regions. Of the woman surveyed, 112 reported incidental headache (fewer than 15 headaches per month) and 413 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the patients were diagnosed with migraines.

The medical research found patients with chronic headache were four times more likely than those with occasional headache to report symptoms of major Manic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also two times more inclined to report a high degree of symptoms linked to headache, pain or puzzle during intercourse.

Among man tested with severely disabling migraine, the clinical trial found the likelihood of major Psychotic Depression increased 32-fold if the patient also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms can stir up or be a manifestation of major Depression in woman with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax and Psychotic Depression may heighten pain perception,” said medical trial author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This link between migraine and major Atypical Depression suggests a prevalent neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical study are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Manic Depression could be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Heedless of what’s causing the relation between migraine and Atypical Depression, psychiatric sickness such as Manic Depression complicates headache management and can give rise to poorer sequels for headache management,” said Tietjen.

The clinical trial was countenanced, in part, by the American Headache Society, which values 18 million American women suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 20,000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to amending people care through education and medical study. A neurologist is a doctor specialized on monitoring, curing and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system such as blow, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and repeated sclerosis.
